Written in dedication to my late grandfather, Lullaby of the Plains takes the form of a Kansas farmer singing his children to sleep as the sun sets and the fields of, "ashen light and grain" wave outside the homestead in a gently rocking fashion. Written as the final installment to the song cycle The Songs of the Prairie, this work challenges singer to explore the beauty of singing a child to sleep.
