Designed to be both a stand alone work and perhaps the beginning to something larger, I wrote this composition purely because I loved the text. Verbum Supernum Prodiens, is a large collection of text designed for the catholic mass by St. Thomas Aquinas and describes the institution of the Lord's Super. Poignant and reflective, this piece contemplates the night of Christ's betrayal and subsequent crucifixion.
Verbum supernum prodiens,
Nec Patris linquens dexteram,
Ad opus suum exiens,
Venit ad vitæ vesperam.
The Word descending from above,
without leaving the right hand of his Father,
and going forth to do his work,
reached the evening of his life.
This work is scored for SATB divisi.
This composition is recommended for an advanced ensemble.
